I know it’s a cliché to write about the NHL, but the best way to keep up with what’s happening on the ice is to look beyond the blueline and onto the sidebars.
The best of it is often just a few people who don’t have a lot of time on their hands.
But sometimes the most compelling stories are those that happen behind the scenes.
As the league grows and develops, it’s becoming harder and harder to keep track of everything.
So what’s the best place to find stories of all the people in the NHL?
To find out, we took the story of a guy from Vancouver who got lucky and started his own company.
The guy is Dan.
Dan is a former writer for the Toronto Sun who is now an independent freelancer.
The first draft he ever did for the paper was a four-part series on the Toronto Maple Leafs, which was the first to look at the team’s growth and the way that the Maple Leafs organization was run.
I had just finished working for the Sun when Dan took on the story.
I remember the day he sent me the first draft.
It was about a week before the NHL draft, and I was looking forward to finally getting my hands on it.
I’d been reading about the Leafs and thinking, “Oh my god, this is going to be great.
I can’t wait to see how this story ends.”
And then I found out that the paper’s editor had a contract with the Maple Leaf organization.
He was looking to get rid of a writer and he wanted to sell me the story for $100,000.
I thought, “Well, it would be nice if I could work for the Maple, too.”
The Maple Leafs were in a difficult spot because they’d been operating as a team for over 100 years, and they were owned by the Maple leafs.
But the organization was doing well.
So they had a chance to change their direction and to move to a more modern model of ownership and management.
That’s when Dan was brought in.
He told me he was looking for a writer to write the series.
That was when I realized I had a client.
The series ended up being a hit.
Dan has now written four books about the Maple and Toronto Maple Leaf.
He’s a respected journalist and a big Leafs fan.
And in fact, he’s the first person I’ve ever met to be awarded the Sports Writers of the Year award.
So how did he get there?
The first thing I did when I got into the freelance world was I tried to find a new employer.
I was freelancing at a Toronto Star business and I ended up going to an agency in Calgary.
I went into the agency, and that’s when I met the Maple.
I just started talking to people.
One of them, I remember, had just written a book about the team and they brought in a guy named Matt Gourley.
I think he was the one who started to get me interested in the freelance business.
I saw his portfolio and I thought “Wow, I can write something here.
That sounds exciting.”
And Matt had been writing for the Star for a couple of years.
He had done a couple other pieces for the newspaper, and he was very much into the freelancing game.
So I asked him if he wanted me to write a book and he said, “Sure.”
So I just got started.
Matt was really interested in what I was doing.
He said, “[I] have a great vision for the book, and you have to get involved.”
So that’s what I did.
And then after I got back home, I did a couple more books and then we started working on the first one, “The Hockey News: The Leafs of the 1980s.”
That was a six-part book.
I put out an ad in the newspaper saying, “I’m interested in writing about the Toronto team.
I don’t know how many people have worked in sports and I’d like to do something different.”
Matt told me I was the perfect guy.
We talked about it, and then I went to Toronto and met the Leafs.
He’d never written about the franchise, but he had worked with a number of people who had.
So we met at a place called the Maple Centre, and we just talked for about an hour and a half.
I’m talking to him about hockey, and all he really wanted to know was how I was going to go about it.
So after we met, he gave me some advice: “Write it for a living.”
I started writing about hockey and writing for a newspaper and then a book.
Then I did the book and the Maple’s book and now we’re on to the second one.
We just finished it and I’m sitting there with Matt and Dan, and Dan and I have a nice little dinner at a restaurant. They
